Hedgehogs at Greenville Invitational: Return of 'The Natives'

East Cobb traveled to Greenville, SC this past weekend (August 27 & 28) to play in GLC's annual Invitational.

2-2 on the weekend.

All and all a good time - not the greatest result, but, we had a solid weekend, got some good PT in, never gave up and limited our injuries in our game vs. The Natives to a bruised jaw. We also added five new players to the squad, including Dillon "BJ" Thompson and Phil Floor on Defense, Dale Morley at Goalkeeper and Josh Dougherty and Austin Ambrose (aka 'Nubby') at Midfield.

Pool:
ECLC  13-2  The Natives
CLC    12-2  ECLC
ECLC  8-3   Slap Nut Mangos

Playoff:
Asheville LC 11-6 ECLC

Offensive MVP: Max Baker, Midfield
Max never ran out of energy and owned the midfield - ground ball machine.

Defensive MVP: Dillon Thompson, Close Defense
Biscuit Jr. a/k/a BJ was huge on D, dangled for days and was so positive he could probably withstand surgery without anesthesia.

We also played our last tournament for a good while with Joe Harmon - please wish him well as he begins his service in the U.S. Marine Corps and ships for Parris Island, SC in two weeks. We're proud of you, Joey!

Next tournament: Peach State Classic on Oct. 1st in Cobb County, GA

Hog Family and Friends-

East Cobb had a very successful tournament in Asheville - arguably our best performance ever - or since Myrtle Beach's Swamp Fox Shootout in 2014. The squad fought through setbacks and never gave up, fueled by a robust supply of McGriddles, Grand Slamwiches and PB&Js. And Faucette's new club theme song too.

4-1 on the weekend

W's vs. Asheville LC, Charleston Hurricanes, Augusta Beavers and Mean Machine

41 Goals For, 21 Goals Against

The Hogs were a Semi-Finalist, and came within a goal or two from being in the championship game. Just ran out of time against an Asheville squad refreshed with an absolute beast at Faceoff (college nickname: "Lou Ferrigno") and a stout defense.

Tournament MVP: Andrew Flood, Goalkeeper

Offensive MVP: Zack Swerdloff, Attack

Defensive MVP: Tanner Gard, Close Defense

East Cobb vs. Southern Empire

The Hogs earned our first "W" vs. Team Tang Orange, aka Southern Empire, at Kell Yeah High School. Final score was 9-8.

High intensity, back and forth game against a tested Empire squad. The match saw the introduction of several new players, including JU Dolphins T.J. Kenary (Attack) and Tanner Gard (Defense) and Midfielders Grey Williams, Parker Daigle, Max Baker and Brock Henson.

Special shout-out goes to T.J. who played a full game after 2 hours of sleep in 4 days, a 6 hour flight from San Francisco, a few G&T's inflight and an hour long drive to the field.

Next up... Pensacola on May 14th.
