Hedgehogs & Volcanoes: The 2019 Carolina Classic

East Cobb traveled to the tropical paradise of Columbia, SC to play in our first Carolina Classic hosted by Columbia Natives Lacrosse.

Big improvement over Charlotte!!

Our schedule had some rumbles vs familiar names: Asheville LC, Jacksonville Juice and Columbia Natives. The 🦔s went 2-1 in pool play with a loss to Asheville (new rules: that level of patchouli and mystical chakra should be a DQ in post college ball). Postgame activities included the lazy river 🌴, a 🌋 tour by helicopter and coconut 🥥 eating contest.

Hogs made through it to the Semis, falling to the eventual tourney winner, the mercenaries of Greensboro LC, who don’t wear matching uniforms and can’t order beer 🍻 in bars legally (Team Skittles).

4th Place, whoop whoop. Tropical Columbia MVPs… 🌴 🌴 🌴

Tourney MVP: Connor Hanson - Goalkeeper (Hog Debut!) 🧱

Offense MVP: Will Goodman - Utility Midfield 🔪

Defense MVP: Estefan Lucio - Faceoff Midfield 🔨

Lake Tahoe in Incline Village, NV is next up on July 19th, see you there dirtbags!

Serious filth contained right here…

Pregame juggling with Connor®️.

RPS under the watchful eye of Quiles. “No cheating now!”

Da Loach.

So tropical. Columbia is amazing.

Hogs play in 4th Shootout for Soldiers Atlanta

East Cobb LC participated in the 4th annual Shootout for Soldiers at Kennesaw Mountain High School - Casey Minick’s high school home (sooooo many goals scored here). We note that this field is usually 5,000,000 degrees, and will melt your cleats. It’s just closer to the sun.

The club raised somewhere in the vicinity of $1,500 for the Patriot Legacy Fund and America’s Vet Dogs. Since inception in Atlanta East Cobb has raised over $7,500 for various charities.

This year we were able to put in plenty of hours - two full games - night open time - our rookie goalie Jon Santa Maria played at least 36 hours in cage overnight.

Here are some pics from SFS Atlanta…

Great times, great cause!

This field is always hot.

East Cobb kicks off season at Charlotte Play-Day

New opponents, friends, frenemies and all in between - greetings from the Charlotteyburg!

Your Hogs kicked off our 2019 Season by rolling up I-85 to the South’s most exciting city, Charlotte. Known for 24/7 excitement, the world’s best restaurants, a thriving Chinatown, America’s finest airport and the best whitewater rafting in the universe, the Queen City was the backdrop for our first games of the year that included referees (or so we thought).

We met up with the QC Misfits, a new club out of Charlotte, Jacksonville Juice from eastern NC, and the Columbia Natives.

The Hogs went 1-2 in play on the day - not the result we wanted - which was ended unfortunately by Bailey Hintze, a/k/a Sir Dirt, being knocked out in our last game by a coma slide. (Bailey is ok, his defender left with a flat nose, however…). Scary stuff regardless, and not how you want to see a teammate. The paramedics in Matthews, NC did a great job taking care of him!

We look forward to our rematches with these teams.

Sir Dirt with the great first responders of Matthews, NC and the squad!

Gerber doing his Gerber thing.

Quality officiating means looking away.

East Cobb plays some sports at Shootout for Soldiers Atlanta

The Hogs had a solid outing at Shootout for Soldiers Atlanta at Kennesaw Mountain this past weekend.

The club and its friends and family raised over $3,100 - and brought 25+ players to the event this year. Three players - Spencer Pursley, Patrick Cheney and Phil Seo took the crown for fundraising - generating $2,000 in contributions between the three of them. The event itself raised over $60,000 for our veterans.

The club "won" our hour - 8-3 - which probably counts for something somewhere. Solid portion of the squad stuck around for "after hours" and played until about 4:00 AM. Shoutout to the Original Gigantor, Mike Voso, for trampling attackmen, Mike Matthews for style points (silky goals all day) and Mike Montgomery for ugliest shorts (and solid netminding).

Squad Pic - Rupert Hoggington came along for the ride.

Hoggingtons Conquer First Sugarloaf Shootout

Hoggington Conquest!

Belated write-up here... A sharp looking East Cobb Box Squad stepped on the floor for the first time on March 24th and 25th at the Infinite Energy Arena in Suwanee, GA - the home barn for the Georgia Swarm. The Hog's were undefeated in open play and took the cup vs. the Nashville Ostriches. The squad had wicked new members - just a few national champions and a very large midfielder who played at Duke...

Tourney MVPs received some new Gnomeware for killing it during the tournament:

Offense MVP:     Dan Eipp - Forward [Ninja Gnome]

Defense MVP:     Jon Gill - Defense [Grumpy Gnome]

Tourney MVP:     John McLaughlin - Goaltender [Sasquatch]

Box Lacrosse will continue to be a solid part of what East Cobb does going forward - be on the lookout for Fall Box with ECLC!

More images of the tourney are here.

East Cobb March Color Game

The Tradition continues...

On this Episode of "Hogs n' Stuff", we played lacrosse again. Team Shark Attack (White), led by Anthony "Gerber" Winters, won in fake overtime, 4-3, against Team Spring, Summer, Fall, Beat Winters, led by Hunter Alexander. We also performed fake face-offs and had an invisible referee.

The April Color Game will change format: White vs. Blue vs. Average Joes. Average Joes will be our dirtiest (in more ways than one) players.

Pictures of the game are here.

Mittens and Lax - Blue vs. White Scrimmy

Hog Fam-

The club had it's second Blue vs. White Scrimmage of the year at Kell High School - Blue were "Mathletes from Georgia Tech", led by GK Matt Sommerfeldt; White was "PyeongChang Winter Olympics 2018", led by GK Matt McCarthy.

It was surely a cold day in Hell because everyone showed up promptly for the most part and no one flaked. Club played full sides with ample subs. The boys also got their new frosty mitts: Warrior Evo Pros and Brine King Elites. Pictures don't do them justice!

Mathletes took the game with a score of 7 - 1 over the Korean Winter Games. The Series is now tied 1 - 1. The winner gets beer pitchers at Taco Mac and a pic with Rupert the Hog.

The squad welcomed some new guests and players this past weekend: Stephen Dolbow (Mid), Andrew Taralongo (Mid), Jack Quinn (Def), Jeffrey Allar (Mid), Jake Sciotto (Def), Tanner Fant (Att). As always, if you're interested in playing lacrosse with our club, check out this page here.

Next event: Blue vs. White, 3 March 2018.

Here are some snaps - more pics on our Facebook page here.
